In the Beginning…

Owner and Creative Director, Kristine Cherry, has been creating jewelry and wearable art for as long as she can remember. In 1993, she designed bejeweled ear cuffs to sell at the 51st WorldCon in San Francisco, CA. The response was huge; she sold out her entire stock of specialty ear cuffs inspired by the Bajoran ear cuffs worn on the popular Star Trek t.v. show, “Star Trek: Deep Space 9”. Luckily, she had brought all her jewelry making supplies and spent the entire 5-day convention hard at work making custom, on-the-spot ear cuffs for anyone and everyone who stopped by to watch her work.

Moving On…

Realizing there was a large audience for such cosplay (“costume play”) accessories, she sold her designs in dealer’s rooms at conventions from San Francisco to San Diego. Then she went on to submit her designs, now expanded to accessories (jewelry boxes, hair picks, fans & cosplay masks) in art shows. In 1996 she won “First Place 3D” at the Gallifrey 7 convention in Van Nuys, CA, for her “Snowflake Obsidian” necklace.

An ever-restless, creative spirit always has her working on new & unique side projects in various art and crafts. In the past they have included parasols, trinket boxes, cosplay masks, handmade Book of Shadows binders and peyote stitch necklace bottles.

Up to Now…

Though she has retired from running tables in dealer’s rooms, Kristine is an art show participant in several local conventions in Southern California – Loscon and Gallifrey One. She also has several active storefronts on Etsy.com – The Ears Have It (ear cuffs, cartilage multi-pierced earrings and matching jewelry), KC Dragonfly (peyote stitched bead work patterns) and Tis4Tardis (Doctor Who & popular culture genre-inspired bead work and peyote stitched patterns).

Her success set the stage for establishment of KC Dragonfly and more. She is devoted to the creation of custom pieces of wearable art, tailored to the desires of her clientele. She never says, “No, that’s not possible,” but rather, “How can I make this work?” Is this a strategy that works? Yes. Check out the dozens of reviews from satisfied customers in her Etsy store, The Ears Have It and on the website in her section, “Customer Love”.

But Always…

But beyond the strategy, she is doing what she loves and fulfilling a need in her customers. Kristine’s creations are whimsical, yet elegant, expanding one’s imagination along the way. This reflects the artist herself who is creative in so many aspects of her life. Even the name of her company, KC Dragonfly, reflects this. K.C. are her initials and dragonflies are her sacred totem and life-partner. So strong is her affinity to these beautiful, flying creatures that she incorporates them into her line of jewelry.
